AFL legends are predicting an explosive encounter when Bailey Smith faces the Western Bulldogs for the first time since leaving the club later this month.
Smith stoked the rivalry after Geelong’s triumph over Collingwood, boasting about competing in front of a crowd of 82,000 at the MCG, while the Bulldogs entertained a crowd of fewer than 5,000 in Ballarat, thumping Port Adelaide by 90 points.
Following the Cats’ narrow victory, Smith remarked, “It’s beautiful, mate – not getting that at Ballarat.”

Bulldogs skipper Marcus Bontempelli responded the next day.
“It’s reassuring to know we’re still on Bailey’s mind. Even though he’s with another team, he’s still thinking about us. Ultimately, he probably has fewer spectators in Ballarat to react to,” said Bontempelli.
“Perhaps that’s why he feels a bit let down.”
Smith playfully followed up on his Instagram story from ‘The Salty Dog Cafe’ in Torquay, adding three fishing emojis.

Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd expressed that the tension is to be expected.
“That heartburn is definitely real, isn’t it? He didn’t exit on the best terms,” he remarked on Nine’s Sunday Footy Show.
Damian Barrett commented that he believes Smith had decided to pursue a move to Geelong well before the conclusion of 2024, despite his rehabilitation from a torn ACL.
Richmond champion Matthew Richardson stated that he enjoys the drama, believing such rivalries are beneficial for the sport.
“I think Bailey Smith has been fantastic for Geelong, and his presence in the game is valuable as he brings character and flair,” he said on 3AW.
“I want to see more of it. I love it! What a massive game it will be! Thanks, Bailey, I say.”
Smith delivered an impressive performance for the Cats in their nail-biting three-point victory over Collingwood, amassing 34 disposals and booting a goal.
