In the last-ever 3pm Premier League kick-off at Goodison Park, Everton relinquished a 2-0 lead, ultimately settling for a 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town, extending their winless streak at home to six matches.
The Toffees have limited chances remaining at their home ground—this match marked their second-last appearance at the iconic venue.
Finishing the season on a positive note was the primary aim for Everton, and facing relegation-bound Ipswich seemed like an excellent opportunity to initiate that progress. However, despite a strong start, they struggled to find the crucial goal.
The breakthrough arrived midway through the first half when Carlos Alcaraz delivered a cross that Beto headed emphatically into the net, connecting beautifully at the far post.
From that moment on, Everton seemed to be in command and soon doubled their lead.
The second goal was a standout moment, with Dwight McNeil cutting in from the right before unleashing a powerful left-footed shot that found the bottom corner, leaving Alex Palmer with no chance.
However, despite all their good work, they were stunned by a remarkable equaliser. Julio Enciso, known for netting stunning goals, added to his reputation with a spectacular 30-yard effort that rocketed into the top right corner.
Enciso continued to be a menace for Everton throughout the encounter, coming close to equalising soon after the break. There was a touch of selfishness in his decision to shoot from the edge of the box when Omari Hutchinson was a more favourable option, and that was underscored when his shot went straight at Jordan Pickford.
Hutchinson later played a pivotal role in Ipswich’s equaliser, driving to the byline and delivering a pinpoint cross to the back post, where George Hirst headed the ball down into the corner of Pickford’s net.
The Toffees were reeling from the shock of the equaliser, and the travelling Ipswich fans likely wondered where this resilience had been throughout the season when it mattered most.
Kieran McKenna’s team finished the match strong but couldn’t convert their momentum into a late goal, ultimately settling for a draw—marking their 15th point away from home this season, compared to a mere seven at Goodison.
This stalemate offers little solace to Everton, who now turn their attention to their final home game against Southampton in a fortnight’s time.
