FIFA has imposed sanctions on two lower division clubs in Kenya and Vietnam for their involvement in match-fixing, resulting in their relegation to the third tier, the global governing body announced on Friday.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee found Kenya’s Muhoroni Youth guilty of “activities connected to the manipulation of football matches and competitions”, leading to the club’s expulsion from the second-tier National Super League.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has additionally mandated the relegation of the Muhoroni Youth senior team to the Football Kenya Federation Division One League (third tier) for the upcoming season,” FIFA stated.
Similarly, Vietnamese club Phu Tho was found guilty of match manipulation, resulting in the expulsion of their senior team from the Vietnamese Football League Second Division and their subsequent relegation to the third division.
FIFA confirmed that the clubs have been informed of the decisions and have the right to appeal.
