Real Madrid have suffered yet another injury setback, with defender Ferland Mendy sustaining a rupture in his right thigh during the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona, the club announced on Tuesday.
According to local media sources, Mendy may be sidelined for up to a month, marking yet another blow for the French left-back, who has already spent considerable time on the bench this season due to various injuries.
This latest injury compounds the issues in Real’s defensive line, as Antonio Rudiger also underwent knee surgery earlier on Tuesday.
“Following the examinations conducted on Ferland Mendy… he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the proximal tendon of the anterior rectus in his right quadriceps,” Real stated in a press release.
Mendy’s previous hamstring injury in March kept him out of action for over a month, and he was also absent for nearly two weeks in December due to a muscle injury.
With just five fixtures remaining in their campaign and sitting four points adrift of La Liga leaders Barcelona, Real will face Celta Vigo at home on Sunday.
