AaB have appointed a new head coach following the dismissal of Menno van Dam, who was let go this weekend after a defeat to fellow relegation contenders Sonderjyske.
According to a press release from AaB, 43-year-old Kristoffer Wichmann has been brought in to take over the role. He has penned a contract that will see him with the club until the summer of 2027.
Wichmann was most recently serving as an assistant to Bo Svensson at Bundesliga side Union Berlin, but both were relieved of their duties at the end of December last year.
During his playing career, Wichmann represented clubs such as Hvidovre, Fremad Amager, and FC Vestsjaelland. He is also known for receiving a six-month suspension alongside a fine of 30,000 Danish kroner (approximately 4,000 euros) for betting on matches in which he participated.
AaB began the season on a promising note under Van Dam’s guidance, but the team has faced significant hurdles since the year flipped over.
Out of their last five matches, they have suffered three losses and managed just two draws. In fact, looking back over their past 17 league encounters, AaB have only emerged victorious once.
Currently, they sit just three points clear of relegation-zone neighbours Lyngby in the Danish Superliga, with only five fixtures remaining.
