A day that was meant to be filled with excitement turned into a nightmare for Sebastian Otoa as he received his long-anticipated debut for Genoa on Wednesday night against Lazio.
Genoa’s coach, Patrick Vieira, had included Otoa in the starting lineup, but the former French international is likely wishing he hadn’t made that choice, as the Danish Under-21 international was shown a red card just 22 minutes into the match.
Otoa’s dismissal occurred when he failed to adequately mark Mattia Zaccagni, ultimately pulling down the Lazio striker right outside the box in a bid to thwart his advance towards Genoa goalkeeper Nicola Leali.
Consequently, Genoa found themselves a man short for the remainder of the match, with Morten Frendrup taking to the pitch as a starter. Meanwhile, Gustav Isaksen was unavailable due to suspension, and Oliver Provstgaard sat on the bench for Lazio.
Lazio managed to take a 1-0 lead into halftime, thanks to Taty Castellanos’ goal in the 32nd minute.
The 20-year-old Otoa joined Genoa back in January from AaB.
