Brisbane Broncos coach Michael Maguire has been tight-lipped regarding the long-term position of Ben Hunt as speculation heats up about the team’s spine configuration upon the return of Ezra Mam.
Ezra Mam is expected to return from suspension in round 10, although it’s anticipated that he will first play in the Queensland Cup.
During the recent match against the Warriors, Hunt was moved to hooker while Billy Walters took on the five-eighth role.
It remains to be seen how the Broncos will accommodate five potential hookers in the lineup, with Walters, Cory Paix, Hunt, Blake Mozer, and Tyson Smoothy all vying for positions.

At a recent press conference, Maguire refrained from confirming whether another alteration to the spine was on the cards for the future.
“Right now, our focus is on Thursday’s match. We may see some changes, or we may not, but we know we have that option available if needed,” he stated.
“Our concentration is solely on Thursday; we’re not contemplating the future with Ezra’s return just yet.”

When asked what stood out to him about Hunt’s performance as a hooker, Maguire highlighted the 35-year-old’s wealth of representative experience.

“He’s played at the highest level, hasn’t he? He’s represented Queensland and Australia,” said the premiership-winning coach.
“We discussed this before coming here, but for now, he’ll don the number six jersey, and we need to execute our plays effectively.
Club director Darren Lockyer recently indicated that Hunt’s new role against the Warriors could be a precursor to future changes.
Brisbane is set to clash with the Bulldogs on Thursday at 7:50pm.
