Aston Villa manager Unai Emery emphasises the importance of moving on from their recent defeat to Manchester City.
On Tuesday night, Villa fell to a 2-1 loss, with Matheus Nunes netting a dramatic winner in injury time for City.
After the match, Emery stated: “We suffered a loss, but our performance was commendable. We responded brilliantly after conceding, equalising with a goal, and our defensive display was strong throughout.
“While City did dominate the second half and applied pressure with a number of corners, we held our ground well.
“We had opportunities too, particularly through Marcus Rashford, who nearly scored a second for us. In the dying moments, I brought on substitutes to make an impact and push for victory, but City matched our efforts and emerged victorious.
“Overall, there are reasons to be proud of our performance and our efforts. The support from our fans was tremendous today; they understand how vital it is for us to compete in the Premier League and aim for European qualification.”
FA Cup Takes Centre Stage
Villa now shifts their attention to the FA Cup semi-final encounter against Crystal Palace at Wembley on Saturday.
“While I feel a bit disappointed, I quickly refocus my mind on the upcoming match this Saturday,” Emery added.
“We have an exciting occasion ahead in London with our supporters against Crystal Palace in the semi-final, and we must embrace it.
“We lost and it’s something we must accept. We gave our all and I’m proud of our competitive spirit, but it wasn’t enough, and even securing a point wasn’t satisfactory for us.
“Now, we need to switch gears, analyse this match thoroughly, and focus on the positives as we prepare for Saturday, aiming to progress in the FA Cup.”
