The future of Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool remains up in the air, but club captain Virgil van Dijk has stated that fans will cherish his contributions if he departs the Premier League leaders at the season’s end.
Recently, key figures Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have both committed to contract extensions, yet speculation persists regarding the possible transfer of academy product Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid.
At 26 years of age, the England international continues to be an essential part of Liverpool’s framework, having netted the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory against Leicester City on Sunday, a win that leaves the Merseyside club just one step away from clinching the Premier League title.
“Since joining the club, he (Alexander-Arnold) has been an exceptional player, and there are numerous positive aspects of his time here that fans will always remember if he chooses to move on,” Van Dijk remarked to the British media.
“Whatever the future holds for him is something he needs to discuss with himself and his family. However, at the moment, he is very much a Liverpool player, and his role in our team is crucial.
“Currently, as a group, we’re unsure about what the future holds. He is already facing considerable pressure, so there’s no need for me to add to that in any way.”
Hailing from Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold made his senior debut in 2016 and has since enjoyed significant success, capturing a Premier League title, a Champions League trophy, two League Cups, an FA Cup, and the Club World Cup with the English club.
