Trent Alexander-Arnold celebrated his comeback from injury by netting the decisive goal in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League. This victory brought the Reds within three points of clinching the title, marking their 13th win in their last 16 encounters with the Foxes, who subsequently faced relegation.
Despite Arsenal’s triumph over Ipswich meaning Liverpool would have to wait to officially claim the championship, the Reds entered the match with determination, with Mohamed Salah striking both posts in the opening three minutes.
Stephy Mavididi provided a constant threat to Conor Bradley, setting up Wilfred Ndidi for a shot that also rattled the woodwork, but Salah quickly reminded everyone of his prowess by forcing a save from Mads Hermansen.
The home side stayed competitive, with Dominik Szoboszlai trying his luck with a speculative free-kick that Hermansen confidently dealt with.
Luke Thomas managed to intercept Salah’s next attempt, while Ibrahima Konaté’s header was comfortably saved. Conor Coady breathed a sigh of relief after allowing Luis Diaz to slip behind him to find Cody Gakpo, with Hermansen tipping the Dutchman’s header away.
The busy Leicester goalkeeper was at it again, denying Gakpo’s effort that aimed for the top corner before Ndidi cleared a stronger header from Konaté, while Salah squandered another opportunity from the back post.
After the interval, Hermansen was again involved, parrying away Szoboszlai’s long-range shot before Coady hurried back to clear ahead of Gakpo, who saw another shot blocked by Ricardo Pereira.
The chances kept piling up for Liverpool without being converted as Díaz fired over the bar, then Hermansen charged out to thwart Kostas Tsimikas, followed by Salah curling a shot wide and Diogo Jota heading past the post from the Reds’ 20th attempt. Coady did find the net in the 67th minute, but Leicester’s joy was short-lived, as the goal was disallowed for a foul by Patson Daka on Alisson Becker.

Immediately after, the visitors surged forward again. Following efforts from Salah and Jota that struck the woodwork, Alexander-Arnold fired home the winning goal before jubilantly celebrating in front of the Liverpool supporters, who echoed chants of “we’re gonna win the league” after securing back-to-back wins.
Despite Leicester’s spirited effort, their relegation was confirmed, prolonging their unfortunate Premier League record of nine consecutive home matches without scoring. On the other hand, Liverpool edged ever closer to clinching the title, needing just one more win.
