The youngest cricketer to ever debut in the Indian Premier League, at just 14 years old, made a significant impact on Sunday morning (AEST).
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, opening batter for Rajasthan Royals, was brought in as an impact substitute and fearlessly scored 34 runs off 20 deliveries, which included a six on his very first ball, sending it soaring over extra cover.
In total, he struck three sixes and two fours before being dismissed by stumping.
His partnership of 85 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal provided Rajasthan with a robust start in their chase, yet the team ultimately fell short, losing to the Lucknow Super Giants by just two runs.
Stepping in for injured captain Sanju Samson, Suryavanshi not only made his mark but also set a unique record as he was born in 2011, making him the first IPL player born after the tournament began.

Hailing from Bihar, Suryavanshi made headlines during the player auction when Rajasthan Royals secured his services for a staggering $1.72 million AUD after a fiercely competitive bidding war.
The budding star has already achieved a remarkable triple century in under-19 zonal cricket, though his five matches in the first-class format have yielded modest results.
Prior to Suryavanshi, the record for the youngest IPL debutant was held by Prayas Burman, who debuted at the age of 16 for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2019.
As for the youngest international cricketer in the IPL, that title goes to Mujeeb ur Rahman, who made his debut at 17 in 2018 for the Punjab Kings.
