Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, expressed that the team’s emphatic victory over Real Madrid—marking their first Champions League semi-final appearance since 2009—could enhance the club’s attractiveness to key transfer targets in the upcoming close season.
The Gunners overcame Real Madrid in both legs of the quarter-finals, securing a 5-1 aggregate win, which sets them up for a semi-final showdown against French champions Paris Saint-Germain on April 29.
Arteta has been actively seeking to reinforce his striking options since January, though interim centre-forward Mikel Merino has garnered praise for his performances. Arsenal have been linked with potential signings including Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting, Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, and Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao.
“That could certainly play a role, yet we are fortunate to be a club where every time we engage with players, they express a desire to join us,” Arteta shared with the media.
“However, it likely adds an extra layer of excitement or conviction, especially when players think, ‘I want to be part of nights like this,’ given that the club is in a strong position right now. Overall, we are prepared, robust, and capable of attracting any player we desire.”
Arteta hinted that forward Kai Havertz’s season might not be finished, despite the hamstring injury he sustained two months ago.
“Semi-finals? That might be a bit too soon. But if I had to wager on him returning earlier than expected, I would say yes.”
“His dedication in the gym is remarkable; I don’t see how he can be kept away for much longer.”
