Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has asserted that the opportunity for an additional Champions League spot for English clubs won’t alter his strategy as the team aims for a top-five finish.
Recent midweek results have confirmed that securing fifth place in the Premier League will now guarantee a place in next season’s Champions League, instead of just the traditional top four positions qualifying for Europe’s top-tier competition.
Currently sitting in third place, Forest boasts a five-point advantage over sixth-positioned Manchester City ahead of their home match against Everton this Saturday.
A first appearance in the Champions League since the 1980/81 season is within reach for Forest, but Nuno is resolute in his stance of not taking anything for granted.

“It’s up to us. It opens an additional slot, increasing the competition, but for us, it doesn’t change our mindset,” he stated to the media on Thursday.
“Our method remains unchanged; it’s about taking it one day at a time, preparing the players, and gearing up for each game. I believe we have an incredible chance to accomplish something special.
“There are varying degrees of pressure. Last season, we were in charge of our destiny, and we succeeded, but we were battling for survival.”
“Now, we are striving for something extraordinary, filled with enthusiasm and ambition. However, the pressure lies in our performances and our ability to compete effectively.”
Nuno is currently monitoring the fitness of several players ahead of the upcoming match against Everton.
His squad has been missing top scorer Chris Wood, who returned injured from international duty, while fellow forwards Taiwo Awoniyi, Ola Aina, and Anthony Elanga are also dealing with fitness concerns.
“We are still evaluating all of them as they contend with various issues: some minor and some more significant,” Nuno explained.
“It all hinges on their recovery and how they’re feeling.”
