Eerste Divisie outfit SC Cambuur has unveiled a limited-edition kit to commemorate the Canadian liberators of Leeuwarden during the Second World War.
This initiative pays tribute to the Royal Canadian Dragoons, the esteemed armoured regiment of the Canadian Army, which liberated Leeuwarden, the capital of Frisia, from German occupation on April 15, 1945. Just a few weeks later, the Netherlands would witness its official liberation.
In recognition of the Royal Canadian Dragoons, SC Cambuur has crafted a special kit that mirrors the regiment’s uniform and prominently features the iconic Canadian maple leaf. The launch of the kit was accompanied by a video narrated by 100-year-old Jim Parks, the last surviving member of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, who entered Leeuwarden shortly after the Canadians had freed the city.
SC Cambuur will don this unique kit during their home match against Vitesse on April 25th. The club plans to honour the city’s liberators both in the lead-up to and during the game.
