Brisbane Broncos icon and current club director Darren Lockyer has encouraged the club to consider giving seasoned playmaker Adam Reynolds a week off to recuperate from a troubling hamstring issue.
The 34-year-old Reynolds could not complete the match on Saturday as Brisbane triumphed over the tenacious Tigers at Suncorp Stadium.
As the Red Hill team prepares for another home game in round six against the Roosters, Reynolds was listed as the starting No. 7 on Tuesday. However, Lockyer is urging coach Michael Maguire to reconsider this decision for the sake of the halfback’s long-term health.
“If he’s feeling a bit of tightness that isn’t evident in the scans, but is bothering him mentally, it’s wise to give him a break,” Lockyer remarked on Wide World of Sports’ QLDER.

“He has a history of injuries, and there are definitely some mental battles occurring as well,” Lockyer added.
“When he departed the field, the team didn’t suffer too much against the Tigers.”
Reynolds is renowned for playing through pain, having only significantly shortened three of his 13 seasons in the NRL due to injuries.
Last season, however, he only participated in 13 games as his aging body began to catch up with him.

The talented halfback’s contract runs out at the end of the season, but he remains committed to continuing his career.
This has led to speculation about interest from rival NRL clubs, as experienced halfbacks are scarce in the current market.
Nevertheless, Lockyer feels there is no immediate rush for the Broncos to re-sign Reynolds.
“The CEO mentioned over the weekend that they want to take their time and just keep an eye on the situation,” he said.
“There are various factors at play – Adam’s health and whether he truly wants to continue are discussions that can unfold over time.
“His performances have been outstanding, and he is an essential part of the team. However, it’s too early to make definitive decisions right now.”
Regarding Friday night’s matchup against the Roosters, Billy Walters and Jock Madden are potential replacements should Reynolds decide to withdraw.
“I’m not certain what direction Madge will choose,” Lockyer reflected on QLDER.
“But I’ve got to give credit to Billy Walters… He must have been disappointed not to start at hooker this season, yet he has been a valuable utility player.”
“Whenever he has taken the field in the first six rounds, he has performed well – solid defensively and contributing to the attack.”
The struggling Roosters have so far managed only one win from five matches.
