Inter Milan’s head coach, Simone Inzaghi, is grappling with injury issues as he prepares for a challenging first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Bayern Munich. He has acknowledged that the German outfit are the clear favourites for the encounter.
Set to face a formidable opponent on Tuesday, Inter will have their work cut out, with Bayern having remained unbeaten in their last 22 home games in the tournament.
“Bayern boast an experienced squad, much like ourselves. They have their own injury concerns, yet they play with high intensity and have consistently progressed far in this competition over the years,” Inzaghi remarked to the press on Monday.
“Together with Real Madrid, they are the leading contenders for the title, but we aim to deliver a tremendous performance here,” he added.
Despite the challenges, Inter are still contending for the treble, sitting atop the Serie A standings and advancing to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.
“We are well aware of our journey; I’ve been at the club for four years and we never prioritised one tournament over another. We always focus on the next match, knowing we represent a prestigious club and will strive to challenge every opponent,” said Inzaghi.
The latter stages of the season have brought fatigue-related injury concerns, with Hakan Calhanoglu, Alessandro Bastoni, and Federico Dimarco uncertain for the clash against Bayern.
“Bastoni and Calhanoglu trained with the team this morning and will need to be assessed, while Dimarco trained separately,” Inzaghi explained.
“Lautaro Martinez was only supposed to feature for the first half against Parma, but he ended up playing 70 minutes. He’s in good shape and I anticipate he will participate tomorrow.”
When asked about his tactics to counter Bayern’s intense style of play, Inzaghi underscored the significance of teamwork.
“Bayern are known for their intensity — every time I’ve faced them, I’ve noticed their relentless approach,” he noted.
“This match will demand energy and determination, with everyone contributing. It’s essential that we operate collectively.”
