AS Roma achieved their seventh consecutive Serie A triumph with a last-minute 1-0 win at Lecce, condemning the home side to their fifth straight defeat in the league.
In the first half, both teams had an equal share of opportunities, with Angelino notably missing a golden chance in the ninth minute. The left-back found himself with the goal at his mercy but could only hit the side-netting after getting the ball past goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone.
At the other end, Porir Johann Helgason had a go from the edge of the box, sending a shot narrowly wide of the post. Lecce seemed to gather momentum as they built up from the back, but a critical error allowed Manu Kone to snap up the ball right in front of Falcone, who reacted quickly to save the point-blank attempt.
Mile Svilar was also tested before the break, first parrying away a tight-angle attempt from Antonino Gallo and then holding onto a strike from Jesper Karlsson.
After a slow start to the second half, Nikola Krstovic attempted to ignite the match with a daring long-range shot that nearly surprised Svilar, just missing the target.
Falcone was called into action again, first stopping a shot from distance by MatĂas Soule and then showing remarkable reflexes to deny Artem Dovbyk at his near post. From the following corner, Gianluca Mancini managed to convert a flick-on at the back post, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Yet, the visitors finally found the breakthrough with just 10 minutes remaining as the dependable Dovbyk cut in from the wing and found the bottom corner, marking his 11th league goal of the season.
The 1-0 scoreline has become somewhat of a hallmark for Roma, as this marks their fourth such victory in seven matches, and they have now kept a clean sheet in 10 Serie A outings. This win temporarily propels them into European qualification spots, while Lecce remains hovering just above the relegation zone.
