The Sydney Roosters are contemplating a bold recruitment strategy for the upcoming season, potentially targeting Manly’s seasoned captain, Daly Cherry-Evans.
Mirroring the successful acquisition of former Storm halfback Cooper Cronk towards the twilight of his career, which netted the Roosters two premierships in 2018 and 2019, the club regards Cherry-Evans as an exemplary figure to guide their younger, developing roster.
With his contract at Manly concluding at the end of the season and ongoing negotiations yet to yield results, Cherry-Evans, aged 36, stands as the oldest player in the NRL. Nevertheless, he continues to perform admirably on the field, boasting over 300 appearances.

Head coach Trent Robinson previously secured veteran playmaker Chad Townsend in a similar role this season, although Townsend is expected to retire at the end of the year.
Two trusted sources within the Roosters organisation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the club’s interest in Cherry-Evans.
“It’s very hush-hush at this stage, and no formal approach has been made yet,” one source explained to Wide World of Sports.

“It may not even transpire, but discussions are taking place.”
The Dolphins, operating out of Redcliffe—the same area where Cherry-Evans began his career—are also reported to be keen on acquiring the State of Origin captain.
‘SMART NEGOTIATING’ LEAD TO RAIDERS SIGNING

Matty Nicholson made a thunderous start for the Raiders. Getty
Matty Nicholson made a remarkable debut for the Raiders against the Broncos, scoring two tries in the match.
So why did his former UK club Warrington let him go? Thanks to some clever negotiating by Nicholson and his manager.
Warrington recognised Nicholson’s potential during his teenage years at Wigan and extended a lucrative contract offer. However, Nicholson stipulated a buy-out clause in his contract, which the 21-year-old activated after three successful seasons at Warrington.
The Raiders have a renowned history of successfully integrating English talent into their squad and appear to have struck gold once again with Nicholson, who has already donned the England jersey in two Test matches.
BRANDY’S OFFSPRING ON MANLY’S RADAR
Manly officials are closely monitoring the progress of Beau Alexander, the son of the legendary Greg ‘Brandy’ Alexander, in their junior ranks this season.
The 18-year-old, a dynamic halfback reminiscent of his father’s playing style, is currently competing in his inaugural SG Ball Cup season and exhibiting impressive form.
The young talent is yet another promising player represented by the former player turned TV personality, Braith Anasta.

RAIDERS’ STRONG CHANCES FOR 2026 VEGAS TRIP
This year, no Queensland clubs ventured to Vegas, but there are strong indications that the Cowboys are favoured to make the trip across the Pacific in 2026.
With a sizeable fan base in Queensland and noted connections to the illustrious Dallas Cowboys—regarded in the NFL as ‘America’s Team’—the North Queensland side would surely make a splash in the land of opportunity.
