Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his relief following their narrow 1-0 victory over Chelsea on Sunday.
The Gunners secured the win thanks to an early goal from Mikel Merino.
In his post-match comments, Arteta said: “We could have achieved much more, but we are very pleased with the result. It was a crucial match against a top opponent, and the team showed incredible spirit as we head into the international break.”
“Our focus now is on winning our upcoming fixtures. If we accomplish that, we will find ourselves in a stronger position.”
Discussing Merino’s role in the attack, Arteta remarked: “We’ve been without key players for an extensive period. Our squad has shown remarkable resilience. Mikel is eager to perform well; although he has never played in that position before, he’s finding the net.”
“He poses a significant threat in the box and can certainly contribute to our success. I’m really happy with his performance, as playing as a number nine requires a different physical approach.”
He further noted: “We did enough to earn the victory. Now, with the international break approaching, we have the opportunity to rest and hopefully welcome some players back.”
“We missed a few chances to finish our opportunities. However, I was impressed with the team’s attitude.
“It was an important match and we were eager to secure a win against a top-tier team.”
