Api Koroisau, co-captain of the Wests Tigers, believes the club should explore the possibility of signing Taylan May following the recent withdrawal of domestic violence charges against the former Penrith winger.
The legal case against May was dropped on Monday, allowing the outside back to return to his playing career after being indefinitely stood down by the NRL in May last year due to the league’s no-fault stand-down policy.
Reports suggest that several clubs are now expressing interest in his services. Koroisau, who shared the field with May at Penrith, stated that May would be a significant asset to the Tigers.
“He’s an outstanding player. He’s faced some tough times off the field, but that’s the reality of the situation right now, and the club will take action as necessary,” Koroisau informed reporters on Wednesday.

“Players like him are hard to come by. He brings a lot to the backfield and these days, having that speed is crucial for wingers – it’s something you can’t just teach,” he added.
“I’m sure there are several clubs vying for him, so it will be interesting to see what unfolds.”
The Tigers have already faced some setbacks in their backline, with centre Justin Olam potentially facing medical retirement and Brent Naden out with a dislocated kneecap.

This situation could create room in the salary cap to make a move for the winger for the remainder of the 2025 season, as there are only eight months left in the contractual period.
Despite nearly a year away from the game, Koroisau is confident May can find his former form. “A lot of it hinges on muscle memory,” he noted.
“He has played at that level before; it’s not like he’s trying to achieve it for the first time. He is dedicated to working hard off the field, so I don’t anticipate it taking too long for him to get back up to speed.”
