Brisbane have made a remarkable start under the guidance of coach Michael Maguire, translating their impressive pre-season trial performances into a stunning victory against the Sydney Roosters.
Competing in challenging weather conditions at Allianz Stadium on Thursday night, the Broncos rallied from a sluggish beginning to deliver a commanding 50-14 win over the Roosters, sending a clear message to the competition.
The new halves combination of Ben Hunt and Adam Reynolds shone brightly for Brisbane, while the pressure mounts on Trent Robinson’s side as they brace for what is shaping up to be a challenging season.
Robert Toia kickstarted his NRL career with an early highlight for the Roosters, slicing through a lacklustre defence to set up Dom Young for the game’s opening try.
Unfortunately for the Roosters, their lead was short-lived as they conceded three consecutive tries, compounded by the loss of crucial forward Victor Radley due to a serious head knock.

Brisbane maintained their attacking momentum in the second half, showcasing some exceptional soccer skills culminating in an astonishing try by Selwyn Cobbo.
On the final tackle, Reynolds combined with Deine Mariner, who cleverly chipped the ball over the defensive line, leading to a follow-up grubber by the halfback that Cobbo skilfully booted toward the line before scoring.

“While Michael Maguire might be aiming for a sense of simplicity within the team, performances like this reveal their potential,” said Billy Slater on Nine.
“It all begins with the smart play from Adam Reynolds. When an opponent comes out of the line, he spots the space outside and finds Mariner, who chips over the defence, and Selwyn Cobbo applies a deft touch with his left foot. That’s brilliant by the Broncos, showcasing their true capabilities.”
They were clearly determined to entertain the fans braving the elements, with Hunt scoring during his return to the Broncos following some remarkable build-up play.
“Consider the amount of rainfall prior to kick-off – the ground is slippery, the ball is slippery, yet this is pure razzle dazzle,” noted Andrew Johns.
“These entertainers are truly enjoying themselves out there. They took risks and ran with the ball on the last play.”

Reece Walsh marked his presence on the scoreboard in the 57th minute, as the situation deteriorated further for the Roosters, who struggled to contain the onslaught on their home ground.
Jesse Arthars added to the scoreline, while Cobbo sealed his hat-trick on the opposite wing, bringing the Broncos to a staggering 50 points.
“They’re making a real statement tonight,” remarked Johns.
As full-time approached, Brendan Piakura was sin-binned shortly after stepping onto the field, creating a strange moment for the young Broncos debutant.
Dom Young managed to add a second try in the 75th minute as a consolation for the Roosters.
“They haven’t given up, but unfortunately, they’ve been completely outclassed tonight,” said Brad Fittler on Nine.
