In a distressing incident during Melbourne’s NRL pre-season match against North Queensland on Sunday, rookie Hugo Peel was transported off the field via ambulance following a significant collision.
Fortunately, Melbourne later provided an update stating that Peel was in a stable condition and that the team was merely taking “precautionary” measures.
The young fullback or winger was involved in a chase with teammate Coby Williamson for a kick from the Cowboys when they collided late in the game, which the Cowboys ultimately claimed with a score of 36-24 at Casey Fields.
As the ball fell to the ground, Peel and Williamson collided, with Williamson retrieving the ball and running back into play, oblivious to the fact that Peel lay motionless on the field.
Play was halted almost immediately so that medical staff could attend to Peel, and Fox League sideline reporter Eloise Sohier described the scene as “frightening” as he was taken away in the ambulance.

“He is being taken for further evaluation as a precaution.”
“We will continue to keep you posted, Storm family.”
“Wishing Hugo a quick recovery.”
