Parramatta Eels head coach Jason Ryles has acknowledged that the decision now lies with Dylan Brown amid ongoing speculation regarding his future with the club.
Currently under contract until 2031, the Eels No. 6 has player options that become available next year. In January, his manager, Chris Orr, sent an email to various clubs indicating that Brown is open to exploring offers.
Additionally, the Eels have turned down a proposal from Brown’s management to buy out the initial escape clause in his contract.
Brown has until round 10 to trigger that option.
Speaking after the Eels were defeated 30-10 by the Tigers in a pre-season match at Leichhardt Oval, Ryles expressed the desire for a resolution to the contract situation “sooner rather than later”.
“Dylan has the right to make whatever choices he deems fit concerning his current circumstance,” Ryles commented.
“My role is to create the best possible environment for him so he can come to training every day and perform at his peak.”
“He’s been nothing short of exceptional with us. We’ll fully support Dylan, whatever path he chooses.”
“While it would certainly be preferable to have clarity sooner rather than later, it’s vital that he makes the right decision, as it is a significant one for him.”
“Our stance is clear. As a footy club, we’ve shown considerable faith by offering him a nine-year contract. That’s where we currently stand.”
Brown was absent from the match against the Tigers as he attended his brother’s wedding in New Zealand.
The Eels will kick off their official season against the Storm in Melbourne on March 9.
