The Newcastle Jets have achieved three consecutive victories in the Isuzu UTE A-League for the first time since 2018, outshining Brisbane Roar with a 3-1 win.
The soaring Jets marked this impressive milestone, with goals from Kota Mizunuma, Eli Adams, and Clayton Taylor at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday night.

The dynamic Japanese forward Mizunuma opened the scoring with his first goal in the A-Leagues, followed by Adams who enhanced the lead just before half-time in the Hunter region. Captain Jay O’Shea’s stunning free-kick provided the Roar with a glimmer of hope just before the break.
However, Taylor’s goal in the 50th minute cemented the Jets’ victory and extended their unbeaten streak to five games. The Jets now find themselves just four points shy of the top six, climbing to ninth place as they continue their resurgence, while the Roar are left languishing at the bottom of the table.
Before the match commenced, history was created as identical twins and linesmen Brad and Cameron Wright officiated together, becoming the first twins to do so in an Isuzu UTE A-League match. This also marked Cameron’s debut in the A-Leagues.

Despite some early pressure from the Roar, the Jets struck first in the 21st minute. Lachie Rose, a constant threat throughout the match, set up Mizunuma beautifully, allowing the Japanese forward to net his first A-Leagues goal.
This moment not only marked a personal triumph for Mizunuma but also signified the club’s 350th home goal in the Isuzu UTE A-League.
The Jets continued to produce some impressive football, but a 37th-minute attempt from Rose—after a brilliant cross from Mizunuma—crashed just over the bar.

As half-time approached, O’Shea’s exceptional free-kick gave the Roar renewed hope, delivering a stunning long-range strike that left the McDonald Jones Stadium momentarily silent. This goal marked O’Shea’s milestone, making him only the fourth player in Roar history to reach 30 goals for the club, joining the ranks of Besart Berisha, Henrique, and Jamie Maclaren.

Thomas Aquilina came close to adding a fourth goal, only to see his powerful shot strike the woodwork in the 63rd minute.
Brisbane attempted to claw back a goal but squandered a golden opportunity during a one-on-one after Kosta Grozos was dispossessed. Nathan Amanatidis’ attempt was parried away, and a subsequent effort from new Roar recruit Asumah Abubakar was thwarted by Mark Natta, who blocked the shot with his arm. The Roar protested for a penalty, but to no avail.
