Auckland FC has reached a notable milestone with the appointment of Luke Casserly as the club’s first-ever head coach for the reserve team.
Casserly will oversee Auckland’s reserve squad in their inaugural season within the Northern League, in addition to his role as an assistant coach alongside Steve Corica at the Black Knights in the Isuzu UTE A-League.
A former Socceroo with eight caps, Casserly brings a wealth of experience to the new entrants and current leaders of the Isuzu UTE A-League, following six years as head of football and later as senior men’s head coach at Hills United FC in New South Wales, Australia.
Before his tenure at Hills United, Casserly served as the head of national performance at Football Australia, collaborating with both the men’s and women’s teams during their World Cup campaigns.

“I’m eager to get started. Auckland is a club filled with ambition, passionate supporters, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact across all levels of the game,” stated Casserly.
“There’s an abundance of talent here that hasn’t had the opportunity to shine before. I’m here to change that.”
“Steve and I share a long history, having played and lived together at 17 with the Marconi Stallions. We also played together in the Socceroos. It’s fantastic to reunite with him once again.”
By working closely with A-Leagues head coach Corica, Casserly aims to ensure a consistent playing style between both the first and reserve teams.
This alignment will enable Auckland’s attacking philosophy to permeate through both squads, allowing players to advance along the Talent Development Pathway.
“Luke is set to become an essential part of the club and will contribute significantly to our goal of establishing clear pathways for New Zealand’s most promising young talents. We’re excited to welcome him to Auckland FC,” remarked Auckland FC CEO Nick Becker.
“We began with just a men’s team and, building on our success, we’re now expanding into all facets of the game, from grassroots upwards.”
“The Auckland FC reserves team will serve as a stepping stone for young players, providing them with a platform to realise their dreams, right here in Auckland.”
Auckland currently leads the Isuzu UTE A-League by two points as they prepare for a crucial match against Western United on Saturday in Tarneit.
