Luis Enrique expressed his pleasure at receiving a two-year contract extension with Paris St Germain, as he aims to etch his name in history with the French club.
Since joining PSG in 2023, the Spanish manager has shown appreciation for the faith the club has demonstrated in him and is driven to create a lasting legacy in Paris.
“From the very beginning, the club has provided us with everything we need, and their support fuels my desire to keep working and improving. We aim to make history here as a coaching team,” Luis Enrique remarked to reporters after PSG’s 4-1 triumph over Monaco on Friday.
“I can’t predict how long I’ll be here; when you feel at home and have the trust of those around you, why impose limits on yourself?
“I truly appreciate that support, and I hope to repay it through hard work, though I can’t guarantee it will translate into results.”
Despite PSG’s impressive win, which maintains their unbeaten streak in Ligue 1 and a commanding 13-point lead at the top, Luis Enrique downplayed the performance, stating it wasn’t their finest outing to date and noting the challenges faced during the match.
“I don’t believe we played our best game; I wasn’t pleased with the final 10-15 minutes, where we struggled to assert control over Monaco,” he explained.
“The first half was quite balanced, and it was tough to apply pressure. In the second half, we managed to inflict more damage, and ultimately we earned the victory, but it was challenging as always against Monaco.”
PSG will next focus on the Champions League knockout stage as they prepare to face fellow Ligue 1 club Brest on Tuesday.
Although a sluggish start to their European campaign saw the Parisians fail to secure an automatic berth in the last 16, Enrique believes these trials have strengthened the squad in their pursuit of the elusive Champions League title.
“We’ve experienced everything together; all those tricky moments where only our fans had faith in us have been invaluable, as they have granted us maturity in a youthful team,” Luis Enrique stated.
“We will never cease to fight. That is our objective this season: to compete relentlessly until the final whistle of every tournament and strive to make history.”
