Emiliano Grillo ignited the latest beer shower at the Phoenix Open with a stunning hole-in-one on the iconic 16th hole.
Hitting from 155 yards, Grillo’s shot soared directly into the cup, swirling a few times before it dropped in during Saturday’s (AEDT) second round, triggering ecstatic celebrations on the party barge that is typically found at this par 3.
“It was spot on. The perfect distance; just a full shot with my pitching wedge,” Grillo told Golf Channel as he made his way to the green. “There was a slight delay in the reaction because we couldn’t see it clearly from 155 yards away. But when the crowd erupted, so did I.”
“It’s something you dream about. I’ve been competing here for 10 years… and every time I stand there, you can’t help but wonder, ‘What if this one goes in?’ It was simply perfect.”

The Argentinian couldn’t contain his excitement, celebrating with a chest bump with fellow competitor Rafael Campos after seeing the ball land in the hole, followed by high-fives with almost everyone at the tee.
Fans packed into the three-tiered grandstands showered the tee and green with beer and other drinks, creating a chaotic, festive scene.
Tournament officials took several minutes to tidy up the mess, rake the bunkers, and inspect the green for any damage, which caused a delay for the following group.
Grillo’s hole-in-one marked the 12th ace at No. 16 in the history of the Phoenix Open, and the first since Sam Ryder and Carlos Ortiz enjoyed the same glory back in 2022.
Tiger Woods’ iconic hole-in-one at No. 16 in 1997 is often credited with kickstarting the legendary party atmosphere at the Phoenix Open.
