Australian snowboarding star Scotty James delivered what he called “one of the highlights of my competitive journey” as he secured his 10th World Cup triumph at the Laax Open in Switzerland.
The two-time Olympic medalist kicked off the halfpipe final with a solid score of 88.75 points from his first run. He then followed up with an extraordinary performance that featured a switch frontside triple cork 1440, ultimately achieving a score of 95.75 on Sunday (AEDT).
James, who is poised to be one of Australia’s leading athletes at the Winter Olympics in Italy next February, finished ahead of Japan’s Ruka Hirano (93.75 points) and Ayumu Hirano (87.00), the latter being the current Olympic champion.
“This could be one of the most remarkable moments of my competitive career,” expressed James, who has now claimed gold at the Laax Open for the fourth time.
“Winning is always tough, but this year has really pushed me due to the amazing performance from my competitors, especially the Japanese riders. They are absolutely sensational.”

“I never thought it was guaranteed until the last competitor had finished. At any moment, any rider could take the win. For me, it’s crucial to execute spins in every direction while incorporating some flair, like the switch McTwist at the beginning before launching into spins.”
“I’m thrilled to have successfully landed the triple this year, which was a significant target of mine.”
This victory propelled James to 230 points, tying him for first place in the World Cup standings alongside Japan’s Yuto Totsuka.

The Aussie hailed the Laax venue as “one of the finest pipes in the world,” stating that there were “no excuses—it’s all about giving 110 per cent out there.”
“You must bring your A-game if you want to claim the top spot, or even just make it onto the podium,” he continued.
Next up for James is a competition at the X Games in Aspen, where he aims to secure his fourth consecutive gold medal.
