The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the venues for the opening ceremony, the first match, the third-place playoff, and the final of the 2024 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN). This tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in August.
The 8th iteration of this biennial competition, which features national teams consisting of players from their local leagues, is set to commence on August 2nd and will run until August 30th.
The opening match will take place at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, while the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda, has been allocated for the third and fourth matches of the tournament. The final will unfold at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya, on August 30th, 2025.
In a significant update, Zanzibar has also been confirmed as one of the tournament’s host regions, with the New Amaan Stadium—recently the site of the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup final between Tanzania’s Simba SC and Morocco’s RS Berkane—scheduled to host Group D matches.
“Furthermore, Zanzibar’s designation as one of the Host Venues demonstrates CAF’s commitment to broadening the reach and inclusivity of African football,” a statement from CAF highlighted.

CAF has outlined the group stage arrangements as follows: Group A, featuring Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia, will compete in Nairobi; Group B, comprising Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic, will be based in Dar es Salaam; Group C, which includes Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria, will play in Kampala. Group D, consisting of Senegal, Congo, Sudan, and Nigeria, will contest in Zanzibar.
Kenya’s Harambee Stars are eager to make an impression in the tournament. In a recent interview, head coach Benni McCarthy expressed optimism about their prospects.
“I wanted to provide them with game time to integrate them into the team. Their presence has been vital as we strive for our objectives, and I believe the players representing CHAN have now grasped the level of performance I expect from them.
“Having witnessed the quality of football we can achieve, I’m excited about the prospects that await us in CHAN. The team will be well-prepared, and I’m looking forward to a productive training period, ensuring they’re primed for competition.
“Our primary goal is to bring more joy to the nation through victories.”
This upcoming CHAN will be the first to be jointly hosted by three nations.
