Pepe Reina, the former goalkeeper for Spain and Liverpool, announced on Monday night that he will hang up his boots at the conclusion of the current season. The 42-year-old legend made the revelation in a heartfelt statement.
A product of the famed Barcelona academy, Reina graced the pitch for eight seasons at Liverpool, securing both the FA Cup and the League Cup. He also claimed the Premier League Golden Glove award for achieving the most clean sheets during his initial three years with the club.
After his time in Liverpool, he had stints with Bayern Munich, Napoli, and AC Milan, before joining Como in July last year, where he has made 11 appearances in this Serie A season.
“I am reaching the end of a truly beautiful career and a fulfilling life. I feel incredibly fortunate for everything I’ve experienced,” Reina shared with Movistar, hinting that his last match could be against Inter Milan on Friday.
“Although I didn’t foresee this moment, I believe the time has come to conclude my journey here.”

In addition to his club success, Reina made 36 appearances for the Spanish national team and was a key member of the squad that triumphed in the 2010 World Cup, alongside victories in the European Championship in both 2008 and 2012. Looking ahead, he has expressed an interest in pursuing a coaching career.
