Australian golfer Cam Davis narrowly missed out on clinching victory at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but he left spectators, commentators, and fellow competitors in awe with a remarkable shot on his final hole.
The 29-year-old Sydney native was vying for the trophy, trailing just a couple of shots behind the leader, before Rory McIlroy surged ahead to take the title.
Davis secured $1.3 million by finishing in a tie for fifth place, largely thanks to a birdie on the 18th hole on Monday morning.
It seemed likely he would lose a shot on the par-5 finishing hole when his third shot lodged against a tree root.
Davis had to navigate both the tree root and a sizeable bunker situated between him and the green.

“I can’t fathom how he will approach this,” commented CBS caller Colt Knost during the broadcast.
“Ideally, he might aim to land it in the bunker right in front of him, then try to get up and down for par.”
What followed left commentators nearly speechless.
The Australian audaciously swung at the ball, launching it off the tree root, clearing the bunker and putting enough spin on it to land within a foot of the hole.

“Oh, come on! You must be joking… that’s the shot of the day,” exclaimed Knost, who was watching from the course.
“Incredible.”
The crowd erupted as Davis exchanged high fives with his caddie before sinking the putt for birdie.
“There are many people who will come here seeking that bucket list experience of playing Pebble Beach,” added CBS commentator Jim Nantz.

“They’ll drop a ball right there at the base of that tree and say, ‘Watch, I saw Cam Davis do this’.”
Davis missed out on a larger slice of the $32 million purse, finishing four shots behind McIlroy.
With two PGA Tour victories already under his belt, the Aussie is currently ranked 58th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
