NFL star Tyler Manoa was all set to ignite Canberra’s Viking horn in Las Vegas, but the pre-game ceremony was somewhat ‘overshadowed’ by the raucous energy from Warriors supporters.
In front of a capacity crowd at Allegiant Stadium, the formidable defensive tackle for the Las Vegas Raiders was given the privilege of rallying fans for the Viking clap.
The 25-year-old was clad in Raiders gear, looking perfectly at ease as he urged the crowd to elevate their enthusiasm ahead of kick-off.
Although it was undoubtedly a prominent moment for Manoa and the franchise, Kiwi fans had other plans for the atmosphere.
Often the most visible fans among the four NRL clubs in attendance, Warriors supporters created a booming chant while Manoa was ushering the Raiders onto the field.
The club had initially approached Dana White to lead the pre-game celebrations, but the UFC president was away for the rugby league showcase.
There were also murmurs that NFL coach Pete Carroll might make an appearance, but those plans didn’t materialise, leaving Manoa as the American representative.
