This season has been nothing short of historic for Central Coast Mariners’ head coach, Emily Husband, culminating in her selection for the national team.
A week and a half ago, Husband successfully led the Mariners to clinch their inaugural Championship, just two seasons after their return to the league following a lengthy 14-year break.
At the age of 35, she has achieved the remarkable feat of becoming only the fourth female coach to lift the trophy, joining the ranks of Jitka Klimkova (2012, Canberra United), Liesbeth Migchelsen (2014, Canberra United), and Jessica Fishlock (2016-17, Melbourne City as player-coach).
IT’S OFFICIAL! The Ninja A-League is now the premier women’s club competition in Asia.

Just this week, the trailblazing English coach has joined the squad with the CommBank Matildas.
Husband is among three female coaches selected to support the Matildas, working alongside interim head coach Tom Sermanni for upcoming friendlies against Argentina and Slovenia.

As part of Football Australia’s ‘Team of Coaches’ initiative, Husband joins Western United’s head coach Kat Smith, Melbourne City player-coach Melissa Barbieri, and Young Matildas manager Catherine Cannuli.
This initiative aims to nurture emerging high-performance football coaches by providing them with practical experience in national teams, international camps, and tournaments while they balance their responsibilities at their respective clubs.

“The ‘Team of Coaches’ initiative underscores our commitment to creating a seamless high-performance pathway that spans from youth national teams to the CommBank Matildas,” stated Gary Moretti, Football Australia’s Head of National Teams.
“Team of Coaches represents a significant shift, offering leading coaches invaluable national team experience whilst allowing them to continue their club commitments, thereby enhancing our coaching capacity and leadership pipeline.”
The Matildas are scheduled to face Argentina in a match at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on Friday night, before heading to Canberra for a rematch at GIO Stadium on the following Monday.
Following that, Australia will compete against Slovenia in two friendlies in Perth on June 26 and 29.
