PSG Manager Luis Enrique Lauds Ousmane Dembele as a ‘Game-Changer’ Following Impressive Recent Performances

Paris Saint-Germain’s head coach, Luis Enrique, expressed little astonishment at Ousmane Dembele’s recent performances, remarking on Monday that the French striker has the qualities that can significantly influence matches.

Dembele showcased his prowess last week by netting consecutive hat-tricks, contributing to PSG’s commanding 4-1 victory against Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart in the Champions League and a 5-2 triumph over Brest in Ligue 1.

The 27-year-old has now amassed 25 goals and provided 19 assists in 68 appearances for the Parisians, having transferred from LaLiga’s Barcelona for an estimated fee of around 50 million euros (approximately $51.35 million) in August 2023.

“Dembele? He’s a unique talent,” Luis Enrique stated to the press ahead of the French Cup Round of 16 clash against third-tier side Le Mans on Tuesday. “Ousmane has consistently been a standout player, regardless of his role.”

“He has the ability to glide past several defenders, deliver critical passes, and score goals. Our aim with him has always been clear: he is a player who can change the game…”

“To wear the PSG jersey, you must be ready for such challenges. That’s why we regard it as a team sport; within the team, everything becomes more manageable.”

On the injury front, Luis Enrique calmed concerns over Joao Neves, stating that the 20-year-old Portuguese defensive midfielder only suffered a minor knock to his right foot against Stuttgart.

“There’s nothing serious. It’s merely the fixture schedule and match intensity that have led to him feeling a bit tight, but he has no significant injuries. We just need to manage his workload,” the Spaniard remarked.

The former Barcelona coach also expressed his pleasure with the team’s overall quality as the Ligue 1 transfer window approached its closing later on Monday.

PSG currently holds the top spot in the French league, leading Olympique de Marseille by 10 points after 20 matches.

“I’m quite satisfied. There may be times when it seems difficult for everyone to find a place, but since last season we’ve enhanced the squad and made crucial strides towards competition,” Luis Enrique commented.
