Victor Radley will not be in the lineup for the Roosters this weekend, but a former league star believes he should be sidelined for a much longer period following his recent head injury.
The 26-year-old was forced off the field during his team’s dismal round one defeat to the Broncos after a collision with teammate James Tedesco.
Radley, who has a concerning history of concussions, has raised alarms for Willie Mason, who insists the club must contemplate giving the England international an extended break from the game.
“I genuinely feel for Victor – I hope he’s doing okay,” Mason remarked on Levels.
“That was a significant impact. He needs to miss more than just one week. This HIA nonsense needs to be reconsidered; it was akin to taking a hit from Mike Tyson.”
“The situation is serious, and I want Victor to give it some proper thought. I reckon a month off would be more appropriate. He’s destined to be a future captain of the club – there’s still so much ahead for him at just 26 or 27.”
“One week simply isn’t sufficient. It’s crucial to take this matter out of the players’ hands as he tends to push through; he’s too resilient. Someone should step in from the Roosters and say, ‘you’re out for at least four weeks.’
“In boxing, a hit like that would mean being sidelined for six to twelve weeks.”
