Montpellier have announced the appointment of former Paris Saint-Germain defender Zoumana Camara as their new head coach, following a statement from the Ligue 1 club on Tuesday.
The 46-year-old will be stepping into his first head coaching role, having previously served as an assistant and youth coach at PSG.
Currently languishing at the bottom of the French top division, Montpellier find themselves 12 points adrift of safety with just six matches left in the season.
On Monday, the club parted ways with previous manager Jean-Louis Gasset after a disappointing five months, which included a streak of nine consecutive losses.
In their announcement, Montpellier highlighted that Camara’s objective is to “best prepare for the future.”
During his playing days, Camara secured seven major trophies over eight seasons with PSG after making the move from Saint-Etienne in 2007. He also earned a single cap for France during their triumphant campaign in the 2001 Confederations Cup.
