Al Hilal’s injured forward Aleksandar Mitrovic (30) is set to travel to Serbia for a final assessment as he edges closer to rejoining team training, the Saudi Pro League outfit announced on Monday.
Mitrovic has been sidelined with a hamstring strain since January 7th, despite the club’s initial prognosis of a three-week recovery period.
“Mitrovic will depart tomorrow morning for Serbia to undergo a final examination… with the specialist who managed his (injury recovery) last year, in collaboration with the club’s medical staff,” Al Hilal stated in their announcement.
“He is expected to return to Riyadh on February 28th.”
Despite his lengthy absence, Mitrovic currently ranks sixth on the league’s top scorers list, trailing just four goals behind the likes of Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, who both have 16.
The Riyadh-based team is set to face Al Kholood on Tuesday, aiming to recover after a disappointing 4-1 loss to Al Ittihad last weekend.
Al Hilal is placed second in the league standings with 48 points, seven points behind leaders Al Ittihad.
