Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson has a clear aim for his upcoming stint in the Champions Trophy.
He intends to step into the shoes of star paceman Mitch Starc.
Johnson has been called up to replace Starc in the Champions Trophy squad set to travel to Pakistan later this month, and he is eager to seize this chance.
Starc has opted out of the prestigious tournament for personal reasons, paving the way for Johnson.
The 29-year-old has already taken on Starc’s role in Australia’s recent ODI match against Sri Lanka, where he claimed figures of 2-44 during their 49-run defeat.

“I look up to guys like Trent Boult (New Zealand) and Starcy – left-armers known for their aggression. I hope to bring that same energy to Pakistan,” Johnson remarked on Thursday.
“I’ve visualised stepping in and fulfilling a similar role to Starc. I admit there were moments of nerves.
“But I believe I’m better for having had that experience. This is only my third ODI, and if I get a few more opportunities, I feel I can emulate some of the feats he’s accomplished.”
Johnson hopes that his performances in the Champions Trophy will catch the eye of selectors for future selections.

“I believe that my performances will determine my fate, if I deliver, I’ll earn my spot,” he stated.
“It largely hinges on my results. I feel prepared to represent Australia after experiencing T20 and now some ODIs.
“I’m genuinely excited about heading to Pakistan, and I’m ready for the challenge.”
Australia is set to face Sri Lanka in their second ODI on Friday.
