Manchester City forward Erling Haaland is set to be sidelined for as long as seven weeks due to an ankle injury, as confirmed by manager Pep Guardiola ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League clash against Leicester City at home.
The 24-year-old Norwegian, who has netted 21 goals in 28 league appearances this season, sustained the injury during City’s FA Cup quarter-final victory against Bournemouth over the weekend.
“There are years when these unfortunate occurrences pile up, and it seems like it’s been one of those seasons for us. If this had happened closer to the end of the season, before the Club World Cup, perhaps it might have been a different story,” Guardiola stated to the press on Tuesday.
“I genuinely feel for all the players who have faced injuries this season, particularly Erling. I wish him a swift recovery so he can return to the pitch,” he added.
“The medical team has indicated that his recovery could take between five to seven weeks. Fingers crossed, he’ll be back in time for the end of the season and the Club World Cup.”
The Club World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 14 to July 13.
