Luis Enrique’s Fiery PSG Ready to Tackle Fourth-Tier Briochin in Upcoming Cup Showdown

While Paris St Germain is gearing up for a formidable Champions League encounter with Liverpool next week, they are fully aware of the potential pitfalls posed by the lower-league side Stade Briochin in the Coupe de France. The fourth-tier team has already claimed two significant scalps in this competition.

Briochin has dispatched Ligue 1 opponents Nice and Le Havre, and PSG are mindful of the threats after a challenging round of 32 match against fifth-tier Espaly, where they found themselves trailing early and required two late goals to secure a 4-2 victory.

“If you examine the other clubs in Ligue 1, over half of them have been eliminated,” manager Luis Enrique noted during a press briefing ahead of Wednesday’s away fixture.

“In our matches against Espaly and Le Mans, we had to really fight, particularly against Espaly, so we can’t afford to relax.

“Naturally, we hope the pitch allows us to play well. However, we must also be prepared to battle tomorrow. It’s common to see the underdog snatch victory, as sometimes a team focusing on defence can emerge triumphant.”

Currently, PSG remains unbeaten in the league, maintaining a robust 13-point advantage over second-placed Olympique de Marseille.

With their Champions League last 16 first leg against Premier League leaders Liverpool looming next week, along with a league match against Lille beforehand, the manager is confident in his squad’s ability to navigate the packed schedule.

“The most crucial match is the one tomorrow. But we also have a broader view of the upcoming fixtures over the next month,” Luis Enrique asserted.

“Of course, the strategy may shift. One player might play in this match, while another might feature in the following one.

“We have a wealth of players capable of filling various roles, allowing us to make these adjustments seamlessly. To perform at our peak against Liverpool, we must ensure our players are getting the right amount of game time heading into that match.”
