The Brisbane Lions are maintaining their composure amidst a disrupted training schedule, as the club makes plans to move to Sydney for their grand final rematch against the Swans.
Due to adverse weather conditions, the reigning champions have had to seek a “more suitable” training venue as they gear up to kick off their 2025 season.
The Lions haven’t practised at their Springfield facility since last Wednesday, following the impact of Cyclone Alfred, and players are now set to regroup for training.
Lions football manager Danny Daly stated that the club is collaborating with the AFL to ensure players’ needs are well catered for during this swift relocation to Sydney.
The team is scheduled to leave for Sydney on Wednesday.
“First and foremost, on behalf of the football club, I hope everyone in Queensland and New South Wales is safe and well. Our thoughts are with you,” Daly expressed on Monday.
“The last week has been truly unprecedented, and not what we had planned, but such circumstances arise from time to time, unfortunately. We’re just grateful that everyone has been able to navigate it thus far.

“Today, we’ve brought the players back into the club for an indoor hit-out to get them back into the rhythm,” he added.
“However, we must assess the situation in Queensland over the next 24 hours regarding our training options.”
Daly acknowledged that while not all logistics have been cemented, the decision to head to Sydney ahead of the scheduled game offers valuable advantages.
The 54-year-old highlighted that insights gained during the COVID-19 pandemic have been instrumental in managing the current severe weather challenges.
“Unfortunately, these situations are part of life, and it’s essential to stay resilient, remain calm, and find our way through it,” he commented.
“I am confident that our preparation will be on point leading into our match against Sydney.”
Similarly, the Gold Coast Suns have felt the effects of Cyclone Alfred but have managed to squeeze in a light training session despite the circumstances.
