Al Hilal defender Joao Cancelo is set to be sidelined for two months due to a hamstring injury, the Saudi Pro League champions announced on Sunday.
The Portugal international, who made the switch to Al Hilal from Manchester City during the off-season, will not be available for his country’s Nations League quarter-final against Denmark later this month.
“Tests have confirmed that Joao Cancelo has sustained a hamstring injury, and he will commence an eight-week treatment and rehabilitation programme,” Al Hilal shared on X.
The player, who has previously donned the jerseys of Juventus, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona, has contributed 11 assists and netted two goals in 31 appearances across all competitions while with Al Hilal.
Jorge Jesus’s team, currently in second place in the Saudi Pro League with 51 points, trails leaders Al Ittihad by six points. They are set to face Pakhtakor of Uzbekistan in the last 16 of the AFC Champions League Elite on Tuesday.
