Rabbitohs star Jack Wighton is facing a one-match suspension after being charged with a grade two careless high tackle during his team’s 16-14 victory against the Dolphins.
Wighton received two charges from the encounter—one for a high tackle on Kulikefu Finefeuiaki and another for high contact with Daniel Saifiti.
It is the tackle on Finefeuiaki that is likely to result in the former Kangaroo missing a match.
If Wighton accepts the early guilty plea, he will sit out for one match. Should he choose to contest the high tackle charge at the judiciary and not succeed, he risks a two-match suspension.
The second charge involving Saifiti, in which Wighton struck the forward with his elbow while in possession, is subject to a fine of between $1000 to $1500.
Other players implicated in incidents from Friday night’s matches received fines.
Dolphins utility Kurt Donoghoe has been charged with grade one dangerous contact for a tackle on Rabbitohs forward Jai Arrow, facing a potential fine of $1800 to $2500.
Additionally, Knights forward Tyson Frizell was charged with a grade one careless high tackle on Wests Tigers winger Jeral Skelton during the 12th minute of Friday night’s tightly contested 10-8 win at Campbelltown.
