Manchester City’s women’s team has parted ways with head coach Gareth Taylor, as confirmed by the club on Monday. The team currently sits in a disappointing fourth place in the Women’s Super League.
“At Manchester City, we take great pride in our ambition to compete at the highest level of the WSL and our impressive track record in qualifying for European competitions,” stated Charlotte O’Neill, managing director of City women.
“Regrettably, the results this season have not met the high standards we set for ourselves.”
“With six matches remaining in the WSL season, we believe that a change in management will inject new energy into our efforts to secure a spot in the 2025/26 UEFA Women’s Champions League.”
Former City women’s coach Nick Cushing is set to step in as interim manager. The team’s next match is scheduled for Saturday, where they will face Chelsea in the League Cup final.
The 52-year-old Taylor had been at the helm since 2020, leading the team to FA Cup and League Cup triumphs in 2020 and 2022, respectively. However, City finds themselves trailing league leaders Chelsea by 12 points after 16 matches in the WSL.
