Forest manager Nuno: Sels is the world’s top goalkeeper, surpassing Alisson

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo addressed the media ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Currently sitting in third place, Forest will face fourth-placed City in a crucial match for European qualification. This fixture sees Nuno and City boss Pep Guardiola go head-to-head once more, following their last encounter in December, where City emerged victorious with a 3-0 scoreline.

Nuno conducted a brief press conference, providing an update on his squad’s fitness ahead of the encounter.

“They are still recovering from Monday’s match, but they are improving. We continue to assess the players as they recover,” he said.

Despite going winless in their previous four outings, which include disappointing results against teams fighting relegation like Ipswich Town and Newcastle United, Nuno confirmed that his strategy will remain unchanged against City.

“Nothing changes for us. It’s important to understand that we are up against an exceptional team with a coach who significantly influences the game. But our approach remains the same.”

When asked about whether Alisson is the best goalkeeper in the world following his outstanding performance against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, Nuno had a surprising answer.

“For me, it’s Matz Sels,” he stated.

He elaborated on Sels and the notable progress he has made this season.

“It’s about his confidence and the support from the team – we are more solid and compact defensively. There’s been a substantial improvement in our defensive organisation, which clearly benefits Matz. He instills confidence in us and is always ready to lend a hand when required.”

Finally, Nuno reflected on Forest’s home form at the City Ground, praising the fans for their role in boosting the team’s performance against any opponent they face.
