Fiorentina striker Moise Kean (24) was swiftly taken to hospital following a blow to the head during their Serie A match against Hellas Verona on Sunday. Despite initially continuing to play after the incident, he collapsed on the pitch.
Kean received a blow to the head while contesting for the ball, absorbing a knee to the face from Pawel Dawidowicz that sent him tumbling.
After being treated, he returned to the game, but soon began to lose his balance and fell to the ground, prompting concern from players on both sides, who quickly called for the medical team.
The forward, currently the second-highest scorer in Serie A with 15 goals this season, was eventually carried off on a stretcher while wearing a neck brace before being transported to hospital for further examination.
“Fiorentina announces that… Moise Kean, during the match against Verona, sustained a head injury. He is currently in hospital undergoing tests,” the club confirmed.
Fiorentina suffered a 1-0 defeat, with Antoine Bernede scoring for the hosts in the fifth minute of added time.
This marks the second significant scare for Fiorentina this season, following midfielder Edoardo Bove’s collapse during their match against Inter Milan in December, which resulted in the game being called off.
Bove has since undergone successful surgery and had a removable defibrillator implanted to prevent the risk of life-threatening cardiac episodes by delivering shocks to restore a normal heart rhythm.
