Following their impressive win against AC Milan, Feyenoord from the Eredivisie is set to return to the San Siro after being drawn against Inter in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
A 1-1 draw at the San Siro proved sufficient for Feyenoord to advance to the next phase of the Champions League, having secured a 1-0 victory at home just a week earlier. The Dutch side rallied from a 1-0 deficit, with Julian Carranza scoring an equaliser with a header in the 73rd minute.
This knockout triumph places Feyenoord in direct competition with Serie A champions Inter in the round of 16. It marks their first appearance at this stage of the tournament since the year 2000, when the Champions League operated with a secondary ‘group stage’ for this round.

Historically, Feyenoord and Inter have faced each other twice before. In the 2001/2002 UEFA Cup semi-finals, Feyenoord overcame Inter with a 3-2 aggregate over two legs, ultimately winning the UEFA Cup in their home ground of De Kuip by defeating Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in the final.
This marks Inter’s fourth consecutive appearance in the round of 16 after finishing fourth in the current league phase. The Nerazzurri reached the final in the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League season but were eliminated in the round of 16 in both 2022 and 2024.
The San Siro holds special significance for Feyenoord supporters, as it was here in 1970 that the club secured their only Europa Cup I/Champions League title by defeating Celtic 2-1 after extra time at the legendary Milan venue.
