Reece Walsh has clarified the misunderstanding regarding his so-called “rockstar” persona at Brisbane, asserting that a brief chat with any of the players would quickly change public perceptions.
The exceptional fullback has emerged as one of the most talked-about figures in rugby league over the last couple of seasons, leading the Broncos to a grand final and excelling in State of Origin matches.
However, after the club faced a challenging 2024 season, turmoil ensued, and the squad came under heavy scrutiny.
Walsh found himself in the spotlight, with his character being questioned, but he chose to brush off the criticism during a recent segment on Nine’s Marlee and Me.

“It’s quite fascinating how much is said,” the 22-year-old remarked.
“This off-season, I’ve heard a lot about ‘rockstar this, rockstar that’. If you were to sit down with any of us boys at the Broncos, I’m certain your opinion would change in no time. I’m really family-oriented, and I refrain from going out or drinking much during the season – I don’t engage in any of that.”
“People might perceive my Instagram following as something different, but I’m quite the opposite. I prefer spending Sundays on a ride-on mower wearing a cowboy hat, mowing the lawn, rather than hanging out at the Pav in Burleigh.”
Former coach Kevin Walters also rejected the ‘rockstar’ narrative last weekend, emphasising that the playing group has consistently remained motivated and worked diligently behind the scenes.
Walsh further articulated the impact his young daughter Leila has had on him off the field, revealing more about his true character.

“She’s wonderful, with such a beautiful personality, full of kindness. It’s incredible to witness her genuine and caring nature,” he reflected.
“Everyone encounters tough times, whether it’s work-related or simply having a difficult day. I might come home from training feeling down, but she remains unaffected.
“I remember my emotions during the grand final [in 2023]; I was in a different world, yet she expressed her love for me. She doesn’t fully grasp what’s happening.
“In those moments, it reveals your true self and helps you forget about expectations.”
Walsh has been selected for Brisbane’s second pre-season trial this weekend, ahead of the team’s 2025 campaign opener against the Sydney Roosters on March 6.
