Jurgen Klopp has extended his congratulations to Liverpool following their remarkable triumph in the Premier League, expressing optimism for the club’s future.
The team that clinched the record-equalling 20th league title on Sunday under Arne Slot’s management was largely put together by Klopp prior to his departure last year.
After his last match in May 2024, Klopp was seen singing Slot’s name on the pitch, a gesture that was reciprocated by the Dutch manager later at Anfield.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the past, absolutely thrilled about the present, and extremely optimistic about the future!” Klopp shared on Instagram on Monday, alongside a snapshot from the title celebrations at Anfield.
“Congratulations – YNWA (You’ll Never Walk Alone).”
He concluded with “Thank you Luv,” a nod to the phrase he had printed on his farewell hoodie, acknowledging the saying that made him feel at home in Liverpool.
Slot has often expressed his appreciation for the talented squad he inherited from Klopp, taking the time to thank his predecessor after the team’s 5-1 victory over Tottenham in a pitchside interview, before bursting into song.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss Klopp has a collection of honours at Anfield, including the Champions League and Premier League titles.
He currently serves as Red Bull’s head of global football.
In his post-match press conference, Slot reaffirmed that Klopp had set a strong legacy for the club.
“I believe it’s something that no other manager has managed before. That definitely played a significant role in helping me,” he remarked.
“Additionally, he contributed even more with the team he left and the culture ingrained within that squad.
“The players’ quality was evident for all to see. However, the culture of hard work, fostered not just by the players but also by the staff, has been remarkable.”
