Local investors have acquired ownership of Vejle BK, who are currently bottom of the Danish Superliga.
Andrew Zolotko, a businessman from Moldova, has held the reins of the club since 2016, but local investors have now taken charge.
Klaus Eskildsen, who previously owned 40 percent of the club under Zolotko’s regime, will retain a significant share in the newly structured ownership.
According to the club’s website, the other stakeholders include Claus Bagger-Sørensen, Steen Bagger-Sørensen, Preben Holst Nielsen, Henrik Aarup Svendsen, Magnus Althof Aarup Svendsen, Gustav Althof Aarup Svendsen, Allan Linck, Jesper Andresen, Bjarne Pedersen, and Tage Pedersen. However, the new owners prefer to stay out of the spotlight.
“Vejle Boldklub holds immense value for many individuals. Consequently, having Danish and local ownership is the right direction for the club at this moment. It was vital for me to establish a model that encourages talented individuals to collaborate and foster a new era of sporting development in VB,” Eskildsen expressed in a press statement.
The ownership transition is not entirely unexpected, as speculation regarding a potential sale had been rampant, particularly in recent weeks.
This buzz intensified following the dismissal of Romanian sporting director Marius Adrian Nicolae at the end of January, just three days before the transfer window closed, and the sacking of compatriot head coach Mihai Teja on Sunday, a week ahead of the season’s restart.
No permanent replacement for Teja has been appointed yet, but Steffen Kielstrup and Johnny Mølby have stepped in on a temporary basis.
They face a monumental challenge in the Superliga, with Vejle sitting at the bottom of the table after 17 matches, trailing Sønderjyske by ten points.
